On December 10th, at 9.00 pm, through the Zoom platform, the iconographic archive of “Aldo Cecchi” non-profit Institute of Postal Studies in Prato was presented by the Director Bruno Crevato-Selvaggi.
Before entering into the merits of the project, the Director wanted to dwell on the lines of action of the ISSP, which we briefly summarize here, so that everyone can realize what is actually the activity carried out for free by the Institute:
• conservation institute;
• consultation institute (library, newspaper library, archive);
• institute for the production and stimulation of scientific research (for researchers and / or undergraduates);
• institute of encounter between the academic and collecting world (through the “Colloquia”).
All managed through voluntary work, with various sources of financing (social contributions, donations from individuals or institutions and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage).
The Iconographic Archive is located within this structure, adding to the tools already provided. As anticipated by the Director, it represents a project that, at least in Italy, has no comparison. “It concerns any postal or philatelic subject, such as situations, buildings, events, paintings, people whose photo or image the Institute (or external owners) has. For now there are already a thousand finds, classified, described and uploaded by volunteers (in particular Lorenzo Carra, Giorgio Chianetta, Giancarlo Rota) in a database, characterized by a search mask with nine items. Under certain conditions, the material will be available to anyone interested “. The archive can be immediately accessible through the following link:
